COMMISSIONER BURMAN VISITS THE COLUMBIA BASIN PROJECT

U.S. Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Brenda Burman and U.S. Department of the Interior Deputy Assistant Secretary for Water and Science Austin Ewell toured the Columbia Basin Project in mid-June, stopping at South, East, and Quincy Irrigation Districts. Quincy Irrigation Director Secretary-Manager Darvin Fales shared: “This was the Commissioner’s first visit to the Columbia Basin Project. I got the opportunity to show her many of the Reserved Works features of the Project in addition to the large structures in the West Canal. The Commissioner was very interested in the Project, asked many good questions and had a very good understanding of our operations by the end of the tour. Our discussions focused on the need for access to low interest funding to address large aging infrastructure projects, Lease of Power Privilege, Fish and Wildlife credits on a multi-purpose project and the Supplemental Feed Route.”
